National Coffee Happenings at One Church!

The UK coffee industry descended on Gloucester Place last weekend for a brewing competition and a first-hand look at our barista apprenticeship, culminating in some national press in The Observer. The paper's Food Monthly magazine named the apprenticeship as one of the 50 most exciting things in food this year, while industry leaders responded to our youth employment project with several requests to launch similar barista schemes in other cities.

The gathering offered a chance to challenge the industry in how it thinks about skilled labour and social investment while also highlighting the neglected issue of waste with the publication of Longberry magazine and a coffee waste dinner downstairs in collaboration with Silo.

Our apprentices helped make the event run properly and will be headed to London next month for similar roles at the London Coffee Festival. Meanwhile, about £7,000 in funding has arrived to help take the project to the next stage: funding itself through coffee events. Stay tuned as the project continues to grow!
